Job Description:
We are looking for a Palliative Care Physician for our 110-bed inpatient hospice unit across six wards at Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre (BKPCC) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The centre serves patients in advanced stages of cancer, offering free, high-quality care in a purpose-built facility.You will also play a key role in advancing palliative care services in eastern India, with a focus on reaching underserved and marginalised communities across Odisha and neighbouring regions.
Required Qualifications:
Essentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBBS) from a recognised institution and registered with a State Medical Council.
- Postgraduate training or fellowship in Palliative Medicine is preferred.
- Relevant experience in palliative care.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in Odia, Hindi and Bengali will be an added advantage.
- Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and manage clinical operations.
Desirable: - MD/DNB in Palliative Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, or Anaesthesia.

Responsibilities as a Team Member:
Clinical Management: - Deliver comprehensive palliative care services to patients with advanced-stage cancer in an inpatient hospice setting.
- Provide regular rounds, symptom management, and end-of-life care with compassion and clinical excellence.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team—including nurses, counsellors, and physiotherapists—to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Support families and caregivers through counselling and decision-making in complex care situations.
- Facilitate case reviews, family meetings, and team discussions to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Administrative Duties: - Be part of day-to-day clinical operations at the 110-bed BKPCC hospice facility.
- Ensure accurate medical documentation and adherence to clinical protocols and standards.
- Take part in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and periodic reviews of care outcomes.
- Support training sessions and skill-building programs for clinical and support staff.

Job Description:
>>>Identify and address the serious health-related distress of patients registered at the institution; develop and maintain related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):
- Help identify patients with palliative care needs address their concerns and ensure continuity of care up to and including end-of-life care and bereavement support through out-patient, in-patient, and home-based care settings.

Essentials:- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBBS) from a recognised institution registered with the Karnataka State Medical Council. PG Fellowship in Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in palliative care in an inpatient setting
- Fluent in both English and Kannada, with excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated competence in Geriatric and Palliative Care principles and
practices. - Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and to
manage a team effectively.
Desirable: - MD/DNB in Palliative Medicine, Geriatrics, Family Medicine or Rehabilitation.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team management or supervision.
- Experience in working with the public health system in Karnataka.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Management:
- Deliver comprehensive clinical Geriatric and Palliative Care services
including both inpatient and outpatient care. - Conduct home visits for patients with complex needs, ensuring personalised
care and symptom management. - Develop tailored care plans for frail elderly, in collaboration with patients,
families, and the interdisciplinary team. - Coordinate with allied healthcare professionals to optimise symptom control
and enhance patients’ quality of life. - Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings to review patient progress and adjust
treatment plans accordingly.
Administrative Duties: - Manage daily operations of the GPC unit, overseeing scheduling and resource allocation.
- Ensure accurate medical records and documentation to ensure regulatory
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery and
outcomes - Collaborate with hospital administration to address logistical issues and
improve service efficiency. - Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff
members.
Collaboration with Urban Local Bodies: - Engage with Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to advocate for GPC strengthening in the community.
- Participate and provide leadership to community outreach programs to raise
awareness about GPC and its benefits. - Maintain cordial relationships with elected members and officials to help
implement GPC in their respective areas. - Represent OBLF in general and GPC in particular in interdisciplinary
committees and community forums. - Collaborate with local organisations to secure resources for vulnerable patient
populations.
Collaboration with the Public Health System: - Maintain excellent working relationships with employees and leadership of the public health system.
- Collaborate with local health authorities to identify opportunities for GPC
expansion. - Provide training to medical officers, CHO, PHCOs and other healthcare
providers for GPC. - Contribute to policy discussions aimed at improving end-of-life care and
access to palliative services. - Participate in research projects to generate evidence supporting the
effectiveness of palliative care interventions.
Miscellaneous: - Stay updated on advancements in palliative care through continuing education and professional development activities.
- Adhere to ethical standards and principles or patient centred care in all
interactions - Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervising authority to
support the GPC program’s goals and objectives.
