  • Research Officer at Pallium India, Trivandrum

    Job Title: Research Officer (RO)

    Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences (TIPS) seeks a Research Officer (RO) to help develop a research culture at Pallium India. The RO will coordinate activities including but not limited to: organizational management of raw patient data, obtaining Ethics Board approval for research projects, ensuring informed consent is obtained for all human subjects studies, developing study proposals, and supervising research design and implementation. The RO will also identify appropriate funding/grant opportunities and write proposals/grant applications in collaboration with faculty. The RO will direct Pallium India’s on-the-ground research, and also assist the team to prepare manuscripts. Initial funding for the position has been secured, with the expectation that the position will ultimately be funded by grants and other sources.

    Job Description

    RO shall

    • identify appropriate funding/grant opportunities and write proposals/grant applications in collaboration with faculty team.
    • assist PIs in research activities like grant applications, manuscript preparation and other research related activities.
    • monitor research projects under Pallium India Inc.
    • prepare project reports at timely intervals.
    • look after purchases for the project.
    • maintain inventory and details of items purchased as dictated by study budgets.
    • prepare the site for any inspections.
    • arrange from meeting within and outside of the institute for the functioning of the project.
    • organize activities related to project deadlines and follow up for their completion.
    • independently manage grant writing, including determining format and content of research proposals and drafting documents for submission.
    • develop outlines for manuscripts with PIs of Pallium India and oversee the summitting and publication process.
    • liaise with the global research team and align on studies and direction.
    • ensure ethical standards of research are abided by throughout design and implementation

    Skills required for the job

    • Experience with statistical computer software programs.
    • Experience with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research.

    Required Educational Qualification: At minimum, a Master’s degree in Life Sciences or Research Methods (i.e., Public Health, Epidemiology)

    Experience: Minimum two years of professional experience conducting research in a university, think tank, charity, consultancy, or other similar research-based environment.

    3. Ensure administration of HR systems including payroll, for productive utilization of available staff through attendance and leave management, etc.

    4. Ensure new staffing in time through appropriate engagement models and that they are successful in the short run.

    5. Ensure that developmental interventions are scheduled and efficient, training, coaching, mentoring, counselling, etc.

    6. Ensure performance management through objective and subjective reviews, variable pay packages, and awards.

    Preparation for the interview:

    Qualification:

    1. Post-Graduate degree in Human Resource Management and related specializations

    2. Strong oral and written communications, negotiation skills in English,  Hindi and Malayalam (desirable)

    3. Excellent skills in MS Office, HRMS & MIS Experience.

    Job Description

    • Responsible for not only rehabilitation services rendered to patients treated therein, but also for ongoing care of all medical problems the patients may have upon admission to the rehabilitation service and all medical problems which may occur while the patient is hospitalized on the rehabilitation service.
    • Work in a variety of environments including inpatient, outpatient, and home care. Work along the entire spectrum of patient care, from acute care hospitals, sub-acute facilities such as inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient clinics.
    • Use a variety of techniques including medications, injections, modalities, therapeutic exercise, prosthetics / orthotics, cognitive therapy and adaptive devices to treat patients of all ages.
    • Facilitate physiologic adaptation to disability to prevent complications or deterioration secondary to disabling conditions.
    • Provide medical care to patients with pain, weakness, numbness, flaccidity, spasticity and loss of function so that they can maximize their physical, biological, psychological, social, and vocational potential.
    • Monitor the patient’s functional status in a therapy environment on a daily basis to determine how these neurophysiological changes are being translated into functional activity.

    Essential Qualification: M.B.B.S, M.D (PM&R)/D.P.M.R. from a recognized university, with Medical Council Registration

    Job Description

    • As a Palliative Care Physician provide symptom management, pain relief and supportive care for the patient in inpatient care, outpatient clinic and home based care.
    • Facilitate clarification of patient and family goals of care.
    • Facilitate information sharing and decision making regarding patient care.
    • In addition to providing expert symptom management, as a palliative care physician you need to devote time to intensive family meetings, ensure coordinated care across health care settings, link patients and family members to support groups and other services and improve access to information so patients can make confident, well-informed decisions about their care.
    • Consult with fellow physicians and the interdisciplinary team in establishing a written plan of care at intervals specified in the plan.

    • Facilitate and participate awareness campaigns in the community.
    • Collaborate with similar Palliative care organisations and oncology community to create awareness and advocate for palliative care in India and overseas.
