  • Coordinator – Sukh Dukh Helpline

    The Sukh-Dukh Helpline (SDH) is a Pallium India initiative in collaboration with Caregiver SaathiMIND India and Edjacklegs. It is a national level platform to address emotional distress, particularly in the context of the pandemic, and offers psychological first aid, grief and bereavement counselling and emotional support to persons across India. Through this service, beneficiaries receive appropriate support, empathy, respect, sensitivity and information, while adhering to the ethical principles of confidentiality.

    Essential skills required for the coordinator:

    • Project coordination
    • Listening and communication skills
    • Meticulous documentation
    • Efficient responsiveness while managing the IVR and setting appointments
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to troubleshoot systemic issues and propose/drive fixes.

    Experience

    A minimum of 3 years of experience working with project management, health systems/ public health and/or mental health. Experience with relationship management, knowledge management. Prior experience with owning IT systems and working with programmers is considered a plus.

    Languages

    English and Malayalam/Hindi.

  • Medical Services Lead at Azim Premji Foundation, Bengaluru & Kalaburagi

    Azim Premji Foundation invites applications to the post of Medical Services Lead – Bengaluru & Kalaburagi.

    The Azim Premji Foundation’s purpose is to facilitate a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. The Foundation is making initial forays into the provision of health services for vulnerable populations in select geographies.

    The Azim Premji Foundation works extensively with the public education system in several states in the country and is now beginning work on the provision of health services for vulnerable populations in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi. Services will be anchored from Health Centers which will be located in vulnerable low income settlements and will provide out-patient services and engage in community health work; in collaboration with public health systems. Each Health Center will be staffed by a general physician, nurses and paramedical staff and have a pharmacy and lab. The Health Center will also have a Community Health Resource Person who will work with a team of community health workers.

    The Foundation is looking for experienced community health practitioners who can lead several of these Health Centers and lead our work in Bengaluru and in Kalaburagi. The ideal candidate is someone who resonates with our purpose and has an intent to work with underserved communities.

    Responsibilities

    • Support the setup of the Health Centers and the community health work in Bengaluru/Kalaburagi.
    • Lead all the Health Centers in Bengaluru/Kalaburagi.
    • Manage the work done by each Health Center led by the Medical Officer and the Community Health Resource Person.
    • Work with each Health Center to develop and standardise medical care protocols, pharmacy and lab protocols, train the various teams on implementation.
    • Work with each Health Center to develop the community health initiative and train and mentor the teams.
    • Responsible for the medical & community health operations at all the Health Centers, including the delivery of services, the pharmacy, the lab and the community health work.
    • Outreach and visits to the local community and nearby settlements in Bengaluru and to the PHCs, Sub Centers & villages in Kalaburagi.
    • Collaborate with the public health system in the local areas and in the city/block/district.
    • Collaboratively develop and execute a plan that focuses on the health of the population in the target settlements.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Medicine; Masters degree preferred. Masters in Community Medicine / Family Medicine / Public Health ideal.
    • 10+ years of experience, preferably in a community/public health initiative that includes delivery of services.
    • Desire to work in the non-profit sector is essential.
    • Ability to speak in Kannada and Hindi will be an advantage.

    The Policy Division in Pallium India

    This division undertakes mapping and engagement of multiple stakeholders at the national and international level, sensitise them to the need for effective programs and policies that create an enabling ecosystem (programs & budgets) for the integration of palliative care into healthcare.

    These efforts would be geared towards increased education and training of professionals and frontline workers, sustained engagement with policy makers and implementers, facilitate access to essential and affordable essential medicines especially opioid analgesics for pain relief, and demand generation through engagement with communities, civil society and people with lived experience.

    Role of Manager – Policy Division

    The Manager would lead work in the following action areas defined in the 2-year project document:

    1. Work with central governments to formulate, refine and implement policies and programs
    2. Continuous engagement/ effort with stakeholders in central government departments, academia, national and international advocacy bodies, civil society
    3. Follow up with relevant authorities, stakeholders, partners and collaborators to establish/ initiate/ revive relationships, create pathways of engagement and maintain these relationships towards measurable outcomes.
    4. Facilitate National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC) implementation
    5. Facilitate Implementation of NDPS amended rules to make opioid analgesics accessible for pain relief and medical use.
    6. Facilitate PC education as per program defined in the mission.

    Competencies comprising specific skill sets

    1. Competency 1: Stakeholder identification and relationship management: Skill sets include the ability to identify, establish connection and maintain relationships through timely and appropriate follow ups with individuals or organisations. Also, the ability to generate and nurture interest and enthusiasm for partnerships towards achieving specific goals.
    2. Competency 2: Design and create systems and processes to have sustained engagement with such individuals and organisations till mission is achieved.
    3. Competency 3: Comprehension of legislations, drafting of rules, government orders, etc.
    4. Competency 4: Techniques and tools usage to create program frameworks and budgets, presentations, and to guide an expert team to create the components of the same.
    5. Competency 5: Adaptive management skills including ability to assess an audience, respond innovatively and tactfully to persuade to the required conclusion.
    6. Competency 6: Documentation and Knowledge Management Maintain knowledge sharing pathways and systems with other divisions that influence and are impacted by the activities, objectives and outcomes of the Policy Division.

    Experience

    A minimum of 10 years of experience working with health systems/ public health and/or working with Government. Experience with relationship management, monitoring and evaluation of programs.

    Education

    Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in public health, international relations, business administration, management, economics or any related field.

    Languages

    English and Hindi.

    Job Description

    1. Coordinate virtual training activities, resources, equipment and information.
    2. Creating the schedule for each course, with session objectives, start and end dates and other resources, such as facilitator, faculty, case presentation etc.
    3. Ensuring equipment and resources are always available and each online session is well-organized and completed on time
    4. Ensure intimation about the course to all palliative care centers, medical colleges and other medical centers in the country through telephone and emails and /or advertisements & publications.
    5. Providing information to the Sub-National team and regular support to stakeholders.
    6. Prepare tabular details of all applicants for each course before the program and update the online platform provided by ECHO India.
    7. Proper documentation of all activities associated with the project and ensure dispatch of quarterly and annual project reports.
    8. Liaising with the accounts department of Pallium India to ensure proper utilization and documentation of the course fees received from the participants.
    9. Attend training conducted as part of self-development in or outside base location.
    10. Coordination between the trainees and faculties and ensure smoothness in the training programmes
    11. Documentation of each and every activity carried out
    12. Any other roles and responsibilities assigned by the reporting authority.
