  Job Profile

  • Assess the patient on admission and decide the course of treatment in discussion with the physiatrist. 
  • Prepare an individualized schedule for each patient (Home care, IP, and Halfway Home) to be attached to the patient’s medical records and updated as per progress.
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Accompany the physiatry team for home visits. 
  • Assess patients’ homes for improvements and modifications like ramps, bathrooms, beds, mattresses, room access, etc. 
  • Train the patient and their caregiver for functional independence.
  • Teach the patient and their family about the importance of skincare and ways to prevent pressure sores.
  • Prepare pictorial information guides on physiotherapy exercises for patients on discharge.
  • Provide an exercise chart to every patient on discharge.
  • Regular follow-up on patients after discharge along with the social worker.
  • Ensure optimum usage of assistive devices- wheelchairs, callipers etc. 
  • Contribute to service delivery improvements for the project.
  • Willing to visit the community in their own vehicle to reach the unapproachable needy patients for rehabilitation.
  • Manage a clinical caseload of palliative patients in the community as well as IP/OP units.
  • Lead and develop empowering patient-focused therapeutic groups.
  • Contribute to the development of expert patient and caregiver model being developed to support the needs of its community.
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution and competent negotiation skills when dealing with difficult situations such as managing patient and professional unmet expectations.

  Job Title: Medical Director – Palliative Care Centre

  Job Summary:

  We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Doctor who will also serve as the Medical Director to lead the operations and clinical services at a newly developed Palliative Care Centre in Tumkur, Karnataka. This role is pivotal in ensuring the provision of high-quality palliative care services, overseeing a 75-bed facility and leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

  Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Leadership and Patient Care
     • Provide expert clinical care in palliative medicine, including pain management and symptom relief, ensuring adherence to best practices in palliative care.
     • Undertake relevant medical interventions needed for optimum pain management as per patient diagnosis
     • Lead and oversee a team of healthcare professionals, ensuring that care is delivered with compassion, dignity, and professionalism.
  2. Operational Leadership
     • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the 75-bed facility, ensuring optimal functioning of all departments, including patient care, administrative, and support services.
     • Advice on the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implement operational policies, and guidelines to maintain the highest standards of care and safety.
     • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, healthcare standards, and ethical practices.
  3. Strategic Planning and Development
     • Lead strategic planning for the centre’s growth, including help in outreach within the medical fraternity, financial oversight, budget planning, and resource allocation.
     • Drive initiatives for community engagement and awareness programs to promote palliative care within Tumkur and surrounding areas.
     • Collaborate with stakeholders and partners, including government bodies, healthcare organizations, universities, and local communities, to enhance palliative care services.
  4. Team Management and Training
     • Recruit, train, and manage a skilled and compassionate team of healthcare providers and support staff.
     • Organize and conduct training sessions, workshops, and continuous learning opportunities to enhance the skills of the team in palliative care.
     • Foster a culture of teamwork, empathy, and dedication to patient-centric care.
     • Manage collaborations with relevant technical partners for the centre
  5. Quality and Performance Improvement
     • Develop and monitor quality assurance metrics to assess and improve patient care outcomes.
     • Implement feedback mechanisms to address patient and family needs, ensuring their voices are central to service improvement.
     • Lead initiatives for process improvement, leveraging data and analytics to drive efficiencies and enhance patient satisfaction.

  Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: MD with a specialization in Palliative Medicine. Additional certifications or degrees in palliative care are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in palliative care, with demonstrated expertise in pain management and anaesthesia administration.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Kannada is mandatory to ensure effective communication with patients and families.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and managerial skills with experience overseeing clinical and operational teams in a healthcare setting.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, empathy, and the ability to connect with patients, families, and staff.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the values and principles of palliative care.
  • Experience in leading or setting up a healthcare facility, ideally in a rural or semi-urban setting, will be advantageous.
