Dr. Jagruti Kamdar from Mumbai sends us this note on the occasion of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2021:

Life is such a wonderful journey. It has its highs and its lows, and we all must live through our trials and tribulations.

But there comes a time when suffering becomes so great that all you wish for is for the suffering to end!

When I treat my patients and I see that I am making a difference in their life by reducing their suffering I feel proud and blessed all at the same time.

Recently, I received this message from my patient’s family:

Thank you for all your amazing kindness.. you are truly an angel on earth.

And it got me thinking about the nobleness and honesty of our profession.

The amazing determination we all must have, to do what is in their best interest, above all else.

In a few words, here is what I think we all are:

Suffering is Reduced…
Kindness is Personified…
An Angel on Earth…
A Palliative Care Specialist… is thus Defined!!

(Dr. Jagruti Kamdar is a dentist from Mumbai, with 30 years of experience in healthcare. She is now a Palliative Care Physician and aspires to make India Pain-free.)
