Reports To: Centre Director
About the Role:
The Research & Development (R&D) Head will lead and oversee all research initiatives at the Palliative Care Centre in Tumkur. This role will involve designing and implementing research projects, collaborating with national and international institutions, and ensuring that the centre remains at the forefront of palliative care advancements. The R&D Head will work closely with Johns Hopkins University and other academic and research partners to generate impactful insights that improve patient care and influence policy.
Key Responsibilities:
Research & Innovation
- Develop and lead a research agenda aligned with the needs of the centre and the broader palliative care ecosystem.
- Conduct high-quality research on palliative care practices, patient outcomes, and healthcare delivery models.
- Identify gaps in palliative care research and implement evidence-based solutions.
- Promote innovation in palliative care interventions and develop pilot programs for testing new approaches.
Collaboration & Partnerships - Strengthen partnerships with JHU and other academic institutions for joint research projects.
- Work closely with medical professionals, caregivers, and policymakers to translate research into practice.
- Seek collaborations with national and international organizations to enhance the impact of research findings.
- Represent the centre at conferences, workshops, and other knowledge-sharing platforms.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Dissemination - Lead training and capacity-building initiatives for healthcare providers and researchers.
- Organize knowledge-sharing events such as workshops, symposiums, and seminars.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, policy briefs, and public reports.
- Develop and maintain a repository of best practices, case studies, and innovations in palliative care.
Funding & Grants - Identify and secure research grants from government bodies, foundations, and international agencies.
- Develop proposals and manage research funding in alignment with the centre’s strategic goals.
- Familiarity with ethical guidelines for research in healthcare.
- Knowledge of emerging trends in palliative care and end-of-life care.
- Experience in policy advocacy and engaging with government stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and research methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience - PhD/MD in Public Health, Palliative Care, Medicine, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in research, preferably in palliative care, healthcare systems, or public health.
- Strong track record of published research in reputable journals.
- Experience in developing and managing research collaborations with international institutions.
- Ability to design, execute, and analyse qualitative and quantitative research.
- Experience in securing research funding and grants.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Desirable Skills - Knowledge of alternative and complementary therapies in pain management.
- Experience in inventory management and procurement of specialized medications.
- Training in geriatric or palliative care pharmacy practices.
Compensation - Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
