Dr Rajeev Jayadevan advocates for palliative care in gastroenterology practice
Dr M R Rajagopal, Chairman of Pallium India, writes:
I am glad I lived to see this development – a renowned gastroenterologist talking on the relevance of palliative care at a gastroenterology conference in India.
Let us hope this is the beginning of a compassionate revolution leading to improved quality of life as well as of death for people with many incurable diseases like advanced metastatic cancer, end-stage cirrhosis of the liver and so on.
Just as a substantial body of practising super-specialists in India have recently gone through palliative care training so as to integrate it into their routine work in neurology, pulmonology and oncology, I hope gastro-enterology will be next in line.
