Meet Mr Balan Nair (Balettan to everyone). He was one of the earliest volunteers in the palliative care service in Calicut, following soon after the first volunteers Ashok Kumar (one of the founders), Meena and Lizzy. They created a new culture in care, offering compassion and empathy, and often giving more support to people in pain than the medical profession could. He created a library for patients & families and headed a patients’ rehabilitation program for many years. Balettan turns 80 on the 12th of August 2014 Happy Birthday, Baletta, and Thank you for all that you did for the suffering people in Kerala.
