Let us urge Governments to act to prevent needless pain and suffering among people with life-limiting diseases. Please sign the The Prague Charter urging governments to recognize access to palliative care as a human right.

1. Governments should develop health policies that address the needs of patients with life-limiting illnesses.

2. Governments should ensure access to essential medicines, including controlled medications to all who need them.

3. Governments should ensure that healthcare workers receive adequate training on palliative care and pain management at undergraduate and subsequent levels.

4. Governments should ensure the integration palliative care into healthcare systems at all levels.

Interestingly, these are all things that the Indian palliative care fraternity prayed for in our Public Interest Litigation to the Supreme Court of India filed in January 2008 and which is awaiting final hearing.
