Short Film 42 of 50 in the LIFE Before Death documentary series about the global crisis in untreated pain and the dramatic life changing affect palliative care services can deliver to patients and their families around the world.

In “How Will You Die?” we discover that, like birth, the end-of-life experience can and should be well.

“What it all boils down to is that we’re all going to die,” reflects Dr Balfour Mount (Canada).  “You and I have to decide how that’s going to be, for ourselves, for our loved ones, for our community, for the international community.  Is it going to be with pain, suffering, abandonment, isolation, anxiety and depression?  Is it going to be with community, support and accompaniment?  That’s the question.”

“It’s the quality of life which is important, not the length of life,” states Dr David Morrison (Canada).  “Palliative care means having a situation where a person lives with dignity until there last breath.”

“My greatest wish is that people who are healthy don’t worry,” confides Dr Charles Von Gunten (USA).  “This period of life, this period of growth and development, can be well.  It can be better than you can imagine.  The experience of others well cared for is something you don’t want to miss.”

Featuring: Dr Balfour Mount (Canada), Dr David Morrison (Canada), Dr Kathleen Foley (USA), Dr Charles Von Gunten (USA).
