Pallium India is a national registered charitable trust formed in 2003. Pallium India strives to alleviate health-related suffering. We demonstrate, educate and facilitate the integration of palliative care into mainstream healthcare.

Education support to children of parents/families ravaged by chronic diseases or bedridden circumstances causes economic and social morbidity. Pallium India extends support to the education of children of these patients and thus encourages them to hope for a better future. The possibility of the children finding their goals for employment, and a safe and secure future fits in perfectly with the goals of palliative care which include the social wellbeing of patients and families. 

Government system or the banks usually do not provide adequate assistance to these groups of children. Situations of despair drive the children to menial jobs or even some might take the route of anti-social activities. During the past years, the timely interaction between volunteers and students during mentoring sessions, Kuttikootam – summer camp and other social interactive sessions instil the value of education to these children and their ailing parents. We also undertake / continue educational support to the children who have lost their loved ones.  The present pandemic and online education system has caused additional burden to these families who are struggling to earn their livings during prolonged lockdown and unemployment of the caretaker. 

Pallium India has been struggling to keep the program alive in recent years. Of the 376 children given educational support during the financial year 2022-2023, 350 are continuing their studies with Pallium India’s support and many more are likely to join this academic year. The selection process will be done in June/July this year and an increase of at least 10 % in educational support is expected during the year 2022-2023.
