Wilfrid Bruce Davis MBEWhen we look back on the exciting history of palliative care in India, Mr Wilfrid Bruce Davis’s name stands out as one of the ultimate examples of compassion, goodwill and care. He has done so much for palliative care in India, including the funding for construction of the Institute of Palliative Medicine at Calicut, assistance for starting Bruce Davis Training Centre at Trivandrum and ongoing support at Assam.

One of his contributions was establishment of the Bruce Davis Gold Medal for young doctors, launched by Institute of Palliative Medicine, Calicut, in 2005 with an aim to improve awareness about palliative care among doctors in India.

The online screening test for the medal is now open to applicants. Doctors who appear for their final MBBS examination in the current year (2014) and those who have successfully completed MBBS not earlier than 2009 from any recognized Medical College in India are eligible. The last date for receipt of answer sheet of step I Screening test is 30th  October 2014.
