The State Cancer Institute (SCI), Haldwani, and Pallium India Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 27 July 2026 to strengthen and integrate palliative care services for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses.

The collaboration aims to provide comprehensive care addressing patients’ physical, psychological, social and emotional needs, alongside appropriate pain and symptom management.

The MoU signing was attended by Prof. Dr. Kailash Chandra Pandey, Director, SCI Haldwani; Prof. Dr. G.S. Tityal, Vice Principal, Government Medical College Haldwani; Rajendra Bijalwan, Pallium India; Prof. Dr. A.K. Sinha; Prof. Dr. Urmila Palaria; Prof. Dr. Nishchay Pant; and Dr. Lalit Mohan, among others.

As a follow-up to the MoU, a virtual review meeting was held on 13 August 2026 with the SCI Haldwani team. The Palliative Care OPD has been initiated, and the process for obtaining RMI status has also commenced. The teams are also working on capacity building and training of doctors and nurses, standardized patient documentation, and further strengthening of palliative care services.

Future plans include expanding services to home-based palliative care, CME and Opioid Availability Workshops (OAW), and telemedicine support, with the aim of strengthening SCI Haldwani as a regional centre for palliative care.

This collaboration marks an important step towards improving access to compassionate, holistic and dignified palliative care for patients across Haldwani and the wider Kumaon region.
