The Department of Palliative Medicine at SP Medifort Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, was inaugurated by Dr. Arjun Devarajan, Section Head – Medical Services and Senior Palliative Care Physician, Pallium India.

The establishment of this department will help integrate palliative care into all levels of healthcare delivery.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. S.P. Ashokan, Chairman, SP Medifort Hospital; Mr. Mani, Managing Director; Dr. Reshmi Nair, Medical Superintendent; and Dr. Nishu, Head of the Department of Palliative Medicine.

In his address, Dr. Arjun Devarajan emphasized that palliative medicine lies at the heart of compassionate healthcare, reminding all that while cure may not always be possible, care and comfort always are. He appreciated SP Medifort’s leadership for this progressive step toward ensuring that patients and families receive holistic, dignified, and person-centered care. The event also featured a session by Dr. Nishu on the significance of the new department, introducing the multidisciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses, a medical social worker, and a physiotherapist.

The inauguration marks another milestone in expanding access to palliative care through collaboration, capacity building, and system integration.
