Two things of absolute beauty were visible in Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi over two days – the 16th and 17th of March 2024.

First, a conference of the Association of Rural Surgeons of India (ARSI) was happening there.

Did you notice? ‘Rural Surgeons’!

Most of the audience was formed by surgeons, who gave up their lucrative work in major healthcare palaces and chose to work in rural areas where they are needed most. Some of them were super specialists who are now dealing with the mundane in the rural areas that they have chosen to work in.

The second thing of beauty is Gurukool. Gurukool is a place where medical students get together and can get mentoring from their teachers in the college in matters deeply concerned with humanity. What they learn there is compassion in action. The bright eyes of the participating students was a sight to see.

Dr Anurag Mishra and all at Gurukool and ARSI, may your tribes increase!
