LIFE Before Death #44: Delivering Dignity
Short Film 44 of 50 in the LIFE Before Death documentary series about the global crisis in untreated pain and the dramatic life changing affect palliative care services can deliver to patients and their families around the world.
In “Delivering Dignity” we discover the importance of pain control in delivering dignity at the end of life for patients and their families in Africa.
“In Africa, in general, most patients will present late with advanced diseases that are associated with serious pain,” explains Dr Henry Ddungu (Uganda). “Unfortunately most of these people’s pain is not well controlled.”
“We don’t want people to go with what we call unfinished business,” concludes Dr Faith Mwangi-Powell (Uganda). “Pain control helps people go peacefully, and with dignity, and that is really what we are looking for.”
Featuring: Dr Faith Mwangi-Powell (Uganda), Eugene Murray (Ireland), Dr Henry Ddungu (Uganda), Dr Zipporah Ali (Kenya), Rinty Plukkel RN (Netherlands).
