The Times of India on 02 June 2014 reports:

KANNUR: The suffering of their nine-year-old son forced a couple to kill him before committing suicide in a hospital at Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, where the boy had been undergoing treatment, police said on Sunday…..

A suicide note found at the scene said they had decided to take the extreme step because they were unable to tolerate their son’s pain, police said.

It is being debated whether the highly politicized Endosulfan was the cause of the illness. Will someone stop to think: why was the child in unrelieved pain? Did he have access to pain relief? Was the child offered palliative care? Did the place have access to oral morphine which is in India’s essential medicine list?
