Job Title: Head Nurse – Palliative Care Centre

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Head Nurse to lead the nursing team at our Palliative Care Centre in Tumkur, Karnataka. The Head Nurse will oversee nursing operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals with serious illnesses. This role requires a strong leader with experience in palliative care or related fields, who can guide and support the nursing staff in providing empathetic, effective care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Nursing Leadership and Patient Care
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of nurses to deliver high standards of palliative care, focusing on patient comfort, symptom management, and quality of life.
- Knowledge of palliative care protocols and setting processes in place such that nursing practices align with palliative care protocols and are tailored to individual patient care plans Collaborate with doctors, counsellors, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute comprehensive care plans.
- Team Management and Training
- Recruit, on board, and train nursing staff, promoting skill development in palliative care practices, patient communication, and symptom management.
- Schedule and manage nursing shifts to ensure adequate coverage and effective patient care 24/7.
- Conduct regular training sessions, workshops, and evaluations to ensure that the nursing team remains knowledgeable and compassionate.
- Quality Assurance and Process Improvement
- Monitor and maintain high standards of nursing care, implementing quality assurance protocols to ensure compliance with healthcare and safety standards.
- Evaluate and address patient and family feedback, implementing improvements to enhance patient satisfaction and care quality.
- Identify areas for process improvement in nursing operations, leading initiatives to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and progress notes in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare and submit reports on nursing activities, patient care metrics, and staffing needs to senior management.
- Maintain detailed records of medication administration, treatment progress, and any changes in patient status.
- Patient and Family Support
- Foster a supportive environment for patients and their families, ensuring they feel heard, informed, and comforted during their care journey.
- Educate patients and families on palliative care practices, symptom management, and self-care to enhance comfort and understanding.
- Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and the care team.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is required. A Master’s in Nursing or Palliative Care Certification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing, with at least 2 years in palliative care or a related field, and experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Kannada is essential for effective patient and family communication.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills with experience of managing a team of healthcare providers.
- Clinical Skills: In-depth knowledge of palliative care nursing practices, symptom management, and patient-centred care.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication, empathy, and the ability to support patients and families in challenging times.
