Azim Premji Foundation’s purpose is to facilitate a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. The Foundation is making initial forays into the provision of health services for vulnerable populations in select geographies.

The Azim Premji Foundation works extensively with the public education system in several states in the country and is now beginning work on the provision of health services for vulnerable populations in Bengaluru. Services will be anchored from Health Centers which will be located in vulnerable low income settlements and will provide out-patient services and engage in community health work; in collaboration with public health systems.


Azim Premji Foundation invites applications to the post of Pharmacist for Health Centres at Bengaluru.

Nature of Job: Managing the pharmacy in the health center

Job Description:

  • Follow the defined protocol for managing the pharmacy.
  • Check prescription, strength, size and the quantity of the medicine before dispensing of medication.
  • Have knowledge of the medicines in the pharmacy, explain to the patient on medications, dosage, route of administration, possible side-effects & precautions.
  • Discuss with the doctor or nurse prior to dispensing any alternate brands and record it too.
  • Keep abreast of any new drugs/medicines and inform the doctor and nurses about arrival of new drugs and change in brand in case of any clarification
  • Maintain copy of all the prescriptions.
  • Maintain inventory of the medicines, do stocktaking for near expiry medication, breakage of drugs & return near expiry medication in the register.
  • Responsible for providing the list of medicines/drugs to be stocked in the pharmacy of the health center, by discussing with the medical representatives and doctor at the health center.
  • Maintain records of purchase & sale of the drugs.
  • Comply with regulatory laws of Pharmacy and maintain high levels of ethical standards when procuring medicines/drugs for the health center.
  • Ensure zero medication error while dispensing medications.
  • Follow the safety guidelines, workplace hygiene as defined in the SOP’s.
  • Maintain positive relations with employees in the center, govt health officials and the general public

Language:  Fluent in English, Kannada & Hindi

Personal characteristics:

  • Experience as a pharmacist including purchase, inventory control of medicines
  • Able to work full time & long hours with willingness to travel to multiple locations where the health centers are located.
  • Interest and passion to work in social sector
  • Effective communication skills with community, patient, doctor and others in the health center.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) would be essential

Qualification: Diploma or Bachelor of Pharmacy with requisite registration to work in Karnataka 

Experience: Experienced with 3 -5 years as a Pharmacist with knowledge about purchase, stock audit and experienced with pharmacy systems on computer

Azim Premji Foundation invites applications to the post of Nurse to provide nursing support at a Family Health Centre serving underprivileged communities in Bengaluru.

Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka


  • B.Sc / GNM, registered to practice in Karnataka, with at least 3 years of experience and willing to engage full time.
  • Ability to speak in Kannada is essential and knowing Hindi would be an advantage.

Medical Officer

Azim Premji Foundation invites applications to the post of Medical Officer at Bengaluru.

The Foundation is looking for experienced doctors who can lead each of these Health Centers as the Medical Officer and general physician. The ideal candidate is someone who resonates with our purpose and has an intent to work with underserved communities.

Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka


  • General physician and Medical Officer at one of the Health Centers in Bengaluru.
  • Lead the medical team at the center; this will include a team of nurses, pharmacist, laboratory technician and paramedical staff.
  • Responsible for the medical operations at the Health Center including the delivery of services, the pharmacy and the lab.
  • Guide the community health work efforts of the Health Center; train and mentor the community health workers.
  • Outreach and visits to the local community and nearby settlements as part of the community health work.
  • Collaborate with the public health system in the local area.
  • Collaboratively develop and execute a local plan that focuses on the health of the population in the target settlement.


  • Bachelors Degree in Medicine; Masters degree preferred. Masters in Family Medicine ideal.
  • 2 to 10 years of experience, preferably in a general practice.
  • Desire to work in the non-profit sector is essential.
  • Experience in public health will be an advantage.
  • Ability to speak in Kannada is essential; ability to speak in Hindi will be an advantage.
