Making Trivandrum a wheelchair-friendly city is a dream that many of us have cherished for a long time. Today, most wheelchair-bound people are confined to their homes and are highly dependent on others, because going outdoors to get something done by themselves is not easy. Our public transport system does not cater to the needs of people in a wheelchair; our government offices and other public places do not have facilities that can be used by them.

As a part of our efforts to make Trivandrum a wheelchair-friendly city, we have already met the Honorable Governor of Kerala P. Sathasivam, who was very supportive of our mission and promised to do what he could.

We have been taking small steps forward to make this dream a reality. On the 22nd July, Pallium India is organizing a discussion on this with officials from the Public Works department, Town Planning department, Trivandrum Corporation, Police department, builders, lawyers, and others.

Let us hope that the day is not far when the city is accessible to wheelchair-bound people and that they no longer have to be confined to four walls.Run Kerala Run
