On the occasion of the 67th World Health Assembly, the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC), in association with others, is organizing the following two side-events on 19th and 21st May.

Strengthening of palliative care as a component of integrated treatment within the continuum of care
12:15 – 13:45, Wednesday 21st May
The objective of this side event is to share concrete and successful models of integration of palliative care into health systems, and to encourage an exchange of experiences between countries to facilitate the development of palliative care throughout the world.
Dr Sudhir Gupta, Deputy Director General of Health Services (India) and the man behind India’s National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC) is expected to speak at this event. Pallium India will be represented by its consultant Dr Nandini Vallath.

Access to Opioid Medicines in Europe and the World: Findings of the ATOME Project for Eastern Europe and consequences for other countries and for palliative care

The Access to Opioid Medications in Europe (ATOME) Project (www.atome-project.eu) addressed the inadequate consumption of opioid medicines in 12 eastern European countries by analysing policies and legislation and promoting awareness of the problem among policy makers, health care professionals and the general public. As part of the programme, WHO developed its policy guidelines Ensuring Balance in National Policies on Controlled Substances, Guidance for availability and accessibility of controlled medicines.
