The international palliative care community is saddened to hear of the death of Professor Geoffrey W Hanks, Professor Emeritus of Bristol University, on 27 June 2013. He left his indelible mark in the history of palliative care in the globe in many capacities including the first chair of Palliative Medicine in UK, editing the Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine and the journal, “Palliative Medicine”. His work touched people all over the globe. Our condolences to the bereaved family.
